We study cells as individuals within social 3D communities, that communicate, collaborate, and compete, to collectively give rise to a functional organism during embryonic development.

Our primary focus is on non-autonomous cell competition as the means to ensure that only physiologically fit cells contribute to the body plan.

This phenomenon of cell competition bridges developmental and cancer biology, where similar principles are used for healthy development, or hijacked for tumor growth.
